Ricky Thakral (Abhishek Bachchan) and Alvira Khan (Preity Zinta) meet at a train station in London. Both of them are waiting for their respective fiances to arrive. To kill time, they delve into details of how they met their partner.
It turns out that their partners don't actually exist, and in the process of chatting up with each other, they've fallen in love!
But to save face they introduce their imaginary partners: Alvira's boyfriend is Satvinder Singh (Bobby Deol) and Ricky's girl is Anaida (Lara Dutta). Not knowing that each loves the other, and also assuming that the other one is engaged, they keep playing their lies and never reveal their true feelings.
What happens eventually? Does love truimph? Or does it dissolve into nothingness?
