Why four star?
During school days, I got the information that this is a movie famous for overt sexuality involving most famous actor and actress in hollywood! (This movie was released when I was studying in class X)
But the experience of watching this movie after nine years of release was totally different. Yes, it does have many scenes, dialogues that may cause distrubance to puritans all over the world!
But this movie is special for the following reasons -

a) Cinematography - Right from the very first scene where in the reflection of the murder of rock star is being shown on the mirror on the ceiling to the actual stabbing scene ----- Might be the shower scene of Psycho is the one which I have seen so far with this much of perfection
Also, the face of murderer is never shown properly (many scenes were shot with body double of Sharonstone) but the entire sequence were shot with perfection

b) Music - Background Music by Jerry Goldsmith is the life and soul of this movie! It takes us to the same mental state of Catherine and Nick! To the best of my knowledge, the music got academy award or atleast nominated for the same

c) Sharonstone - Goodness - three claps for her boldness! If it was not her , I would have rated this movie as a soft porn movie. Through the sharp dialogues, body language - she is the show stealer! I like Michael Douglas a lot but this movie is all about Sharonstone! And again to the best of my knowledge, she was 40 plus at that time!

d) Story, Screenplay and Dialogue - I dont remember the script writer’s name. Nevertheless, this is one movie (the other being Erin Brockovich) where in, I still remember many dialogues. Especially, the dialogue during the infamous interrogation scene is quite hilarious!

Finally, I shall not forgot Paul Verhoeven, the director and the Captain of the crew!

Finally
To sum up, this is a movie which will keep you on your toes till the end! Whats going to happen next is quite unpredictable! The story thread is quite peculiar that the murderer leaves all the clues but the cops find it difficult to trace the evidence!

There are many strong clues which shows that Catherine is the murderer. Still, somehow - I wonder - whether she is the murderer? Even after the strong clue which is given during the climax -- I am not sure whether it was Catherine only?

Just to take you through the hilarious climax which left me with many questions - Nick and Catherine were making love. Nick expresses his desire to marry her and having kids ( I have not understood the dialogues initially and only later on could crack the code). Suddenly, Catherine pull her arm to lift something from the floor and suddenly Nick changes his mind. He assure her that he will not pressurise her to do anything of that sort and they continue to make love and the camera focus on the sharp ice pick under the bed which Catherine was trying to snatch!

Is that the strongest clue that she was the murderer?
Whether she is able to control Nick forever in her emotional trap?
Or Nick is the smartest cop who was trying to crack the crime code and purposefully played with his dialogue?

No idea - the movie is still an enigma for me!

Well - if you are matured enough to experience the taboo subject with out being overpowered by puritanism - its a movie for you! But strict "NO" to kids!
