Movie Review
Vijaya banner is known for producing 'golden films'. With the use of excellent narration skills by the director Kamalakara Kameswara Rao and the right casting, the producer duo Chakrapani-Nagireddy gave a wholesome entertainer in the form of 'Gundamma Katha'.
Gundamma (Suryakantham) has a son, an exploited stepdaughter, for whom she hopes to get a 'resident' son-in-law who can also look after the rest of the family. Two brothers Anji (NTR) and Raja (ANR), decide to teach the old woman a lesson for the harm she once did to their family.
Kamalakara Kameswara Rao garu is known as 'Pauranika Chitra Brahma'. With this film, he tried his hand at comedy and passed out with flying colors. Another major contributor for this film's success is the dialogue writer DV Narasaraju. He gave fine dialogues like …
"Paalallo neellu kalapakapothe .. petrol kaluputhaara?"
"Vunnollantha vedhavalaithe … mana telivikem .. Divitilaa veligi podoo?"
"Manishi sukhaniki kavalsindi .. manasulu kaani .. aasthi paastulu kaavu"
"Aasaku Chaavu ledu!'
NTR donned the role of a rich guy with a strong determination. ANR acted as another rich man who is addicted to alcohol. Savitri, who acted in soft roles in the past acted as a strong-willed woman, who is very hard to convince. Jamuna played a headstrong lady. The scene-stealer of the film is none but Smt. Suryakantham, who made a mark for herself with this film. SVR did a short yet nice role of the father of heroes.
This film is also a musical masterpiece. Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao garu has given excellent tunes for 'kolukoloyanna', 'veshamu maarchenu', 'kanulu moosina neevaye', 'prema yatralaku'. Lyricist Pingali Nagendra Rao garu coined new words like 'Sakhinera Choopula', 'Jagamuna Ooty Saayaga'. He also compared the 'preyasi jada' with 'valapu paasam'.
Producer Chakrapani credited with direction of the Tamil version of Gundamma Katha as Manithan Maravillai tasted failure unlike the stupendous success of the original Telugu version. Gundamma Katha is regarded as the last film of Vijaya's 'Golden Age'.

Suresh Productions which has been presenting quality films since the past few decades is now well recognized and equally popular as the famous NagiReddy – Chakrapani's production house 'Chandamama'.
The latest film made on this banner, having Srikanth, Shivaji, Charmme, Gouri Munjal in the lead cast, in the direction of Surya Prasad and produced by Dr D Ramanaidu is 'Kausalya Supraja Rama'. The film was released on the 9th this month on the eve of Dussera.
It is known that hit films of Srikanth – 'TajMahal', 'Preyasi Rave' and 'Sri Krishna 2006' were all previously made on this banner. A review on this newly released 4th film of Srikanth, on the same banner.
Story
Ranga Rao (Kota Srinivasa Rao) has two daughters Kausalya (Gouri Munjal) and Supraja (Charmme). He likes both his daughters very much and dote them. One of his daughters Kausalya falls in love with Ravi (Shivaji), the son of Narasimham (Tanikella Bharani). Ranga Rao upon knowing the news warns Kausalya that if they attempt to get married, he will murder them. Raged by the threat, Kausalya and Ravi gets married in a temple without the knowledge of their parents. In a consequent fight, Kausalya gets hurt and goes into coma, while Ravi runs away from the place.
SriRam (Srikanth) who was also present there at the incident rescues Kausalya and arranges her treatment in a disguised name Lakshmi. For the sake of her treatment SriRam joins RangaRao as an assistant. Supraja (Charmme) who observes the goodness of SriRam starts liking him. Soon RangaRao gets to know that his elder daughter has died in a mishap. Supraja on knowing that his father is the cause of her sister's death flees away from him. Did SriRam and Supraja meet again? How SriRam unites Kausalya and Ravi? What happens at the end? The answers to these questions are to be watched on screen.
Performance of Artists
Srikanth who earlier did hits like 'TajMahal', 'Preyasi Rave' and 'Sri Krishna 2006' on Suresh Productions banner, has portrayed the role of a humane person with loads of mercy etched into him. He did within the limits of his role. His role is a pivotal part of the film.
The role of Charmme in this film, compared to her earlier roles is very dull and lacks sheen. There is nothing much to say about this not so appealing demeanor of Charmme.
Gouri Munjal who was introduced as a heroine with 'Bunny' in Tollywood, has earlier did 'Sri Krishna 2006' on this banner. After a gap, she has appeared in 'Kausalya Supraja Rama', and exhibited a performance that delivers a fine result.
Kota Srinivasa Rao as the father of Kausalya and Supraja portrayed the character in his own distinct style. Similarly, Tanekella Bharani who played a negative role after a long gap, acted well that imposes the dark shades.
The roles played by Krishna Bhagavan, LB Sriram, Venu Madhav and Brahmanandam have provided the required entertainment to the audience, which presents relief to a certain extent.
Technical Aspects
The music is composed by Koti for this film. The audio seems to be made of tunes that have already been made. Some of them are identical to old movie tunes and it seems to be a photocopy. The song featuring Charmme appears like the copy of a song from 'Race'. The music is in no way an additional asset for the film but acts as a deterioration.
The editing of Marthand K Venkatesh leaves many a voids along the full length of the movie.
Although the dialogues supplied by Satyanand ok to a certain extent, there is nothing new about the story and it appears like an old story that is presented with a new title.
Director’s Portrayal
If said in a nutshell the work done by director Suryaprasad is a total zero. The film lacks a proper tempo, and it gives a feeling of watching a serial telecasted by satellite channels to the viewer. We can say that Surya Prasad has failed miserably to entertain the audience and the flick has become a dud.
Cons
Everything, the story is composed on a routine formula, and there is nothing new about it. It seems like a repetition of an old story. All the technical divisions including music have failed to cater good entertainment. The main aspect is the scenes and narrative style of this movie depicts a serial rather than a feature film. In short, the movie gives the feel of a mega serial that are usually dragged on.
Criticism
The story and screenplay completely lacks freshness, driving the viewer to an extent of irritation. Though the theme is good, the way it has been featured is boring and vague. It would be a miraculous happening, if this film stays in the box office for long.

La Mascara Del Zorro (The Mask Of Zorro)

Director: Martin Campbell
Writers: Johnston McCulley (character Zorro), Ted Elliott (story), and 5 more credits »
Stars: Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta-Jones

The original Zorro, Don Diego de la Vega, is captured and imprisoned just as Spain concedes California to Santa Anna. 20 years go by and his mortal enemy, Don Rafael Montero, returns to California with a plan to become wealthy at the expense of the peasants. The original Zorro escapes from prison and trains a new Zorro to take his place. Much swashbuckling and derring-do ensues.
THE MASK OF ZORRO ****1/2 Stunning, visually rich, and highly acclaimed motion picture that retells the story of the Masked Swordsman (Anthony Hopkins) serving the people of California by saving them from the devious plans and conspiracies the Spanish empire and trained forces carry out. Hopkins trains a new Zorro (properly portrayed by Antonio Benderas) to take his place and save California from a tasteless fate. What subsequently takes place is nothing short of first-rate entertainment. The film has delightful humour and well choreographed sword-on-sword sequences. The musical score by James Horner provides additional supportive elements to capture all of the film's diverse moments. Excellent direction by Martin Campbell. A must-see.

Genres: Action, Drama, Thriller, Biography
Director: Doug Liman
Writers: Jez Butterworth (screenplay), John-Henry Butterworth (screenplay)

In retrospect, the George "Dubyah" Bush administration seems to have been more incompetent than evil, but this movie holds the Bushies to account for what was a completely malicious and unjustified act, the outing of the covert CIA operative Valerie Plame, which put numerous undercover operations and informants at risk, solely because her husband former Ambassador Joe Wilson IV had the temerity to dissent publicly from the White House line that the Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein had tried to buy uranium from Niger for bomb-making purposes. It is also evident that the CIA's soundly based advice that Saddam's bomb-making activities had ceased after the first Gulf War in 1991 was studiously ignored by the White House in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

The actual leaker, Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage got away scot-free, a crucial matter not discussed in the film , but "Scooter" Libby, Vice President Chaney's chief of staff carried the can and nearly spent 30 months inside for lying to investigators before being pardoned by the President. The film focuses on Libby and implies he was the leaker, acting with the knowledge of Karl Rove, the man who described Valerie Plame as "fair game", and Vice President Cheney.

Director Doug Liman is best known as a producer of thrillers ("Bourne Ultimation" etc) but here he and the Butterworths (Jez and John Henry) as scriptwriters have focused not only on the political intrigue but also the effect the Bushies' bastardry had on Joe and Valerie's personal lives. This gives some great acting possibilities to Sean Penn as Joe and our very own Naomi Watts as Valerie, and they both rise to the occasion, although Sean Penn might be a little self-righteous for some tastes. The personal impact aside, what the leakers did was a good deal worse than anything Julian Assange has done, and it is ironic that some of the conservative commentators who tried to discredit Joe and Valerie are now in the front line of those attacking the Wikileaks founder.

Regardless of the politics, this movie is entertaining enough to pass the watch test despite some dodgy hand-held photography. Near the end Valerie has a meeting with a very senior CIA officer glimpsed earlier, on a park bench in front of the White House. This man bears a remarkable physical resemblance to the then director of the CIA, George Tenet. He warns her that she and Joe are up against the most powerful men in the world and asks her to stay silent for the sake of the agency. Yet this role does not appear in the credits; neither does the actor, who I've seen before but cannot place, appear in the credits. Valerie points out the agency won't even give her family any protection against death threats, to which Tenet, if that's who it's meant to be, merely shrugs his shoulders. What are the film makers trying to say here - that the agency doesn't look after its own?

Both Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame were patriots and, I believe, from Republican backgrounds. This did not bother the leakers who clearly couldn't care less who they hurt in the propaganda battle over the Iraqi invasion they were determined to launch. This film is based on two books by Joe and Valerie so I suppose it is a somewhat partisan account. Nevertheless it is hard to imagine a film treatment justifying what was done to them. George Bush in his memoirs mentions the Libby pardon issue but is otherwise silent on who did what. Never mind, his place in history as one of the lesser presidents is assured.

Villain (2010) Tamil

The Cast and Crew
Vikram, Aishwarya Bachchan, Prithviraj, Karthik Muthuraman, Prabhu,
Priyamani,  Ashish Vidhyarthi,  Kishore
Director: Mani Ratnam
Producer: Mani Ratnam
Music Director: A R Rahman
Lyricst: Veturi Sundararama Murthy

The Film
Villain is a film that touches the value of human life and the right to live which is the basic staple theme of all Mani Ratnam’s films right from Roja, Bombay, Dil Se, Guru et al. In Villain, the finest film maker of India, takes basic elements of the plot of the epic Ramayana – kidnap, location of the victim, rescue, suspicion by the husband and decimation of the kidnapper – and transposes them into contemporary structure. This is Mani is take on state terrorism.
The Synopsis
There is a remote tribal village, where an uneducated but highly ethical and moral person (Vikram) who has a sense of dharma and justice, lives. He is revered as an angel by the tribal people and he is their leader. The police led by an IPS officer (Prithvi Raj) consider him as a villain who should be eliminated. The tribal leader kidnaps the police officer’s wife Janaki (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan). A hunt is on to rescue her. A series of events happen and Janaki comes to know why the tribal leader has so much vengeance against the police. She is finally found by her husband, but then she goes back to the tribal leader. What makes her go back? The answer is revealed in the climax.
The Performances
Vikram, armed with an author backed role displays his great range of thespian talent. Aishwarya, with sparkling blue eyes, is enchanting and thoroughly convincing in her action scenes. Prithviraj is very comfortable as a police officer and very credible as a suspicious husband. Prabhu and Ashish Vidhyarti essay their roles well. Priyamani impresses with her cameo. All others fit their roles.
The Techniques
Villain has a very intelligently crafted story, where the entire narration revolves around three well etched characters played by Vikram, Aishwarya and Prithvi. The screenplay is water tight. Many Ratnam uses the visual idiom to convey the moods that have been enhanced by AR Rahman’s music and background score. The summum bonum of the story is given in two dialogues – Aishwarya asks in the beginning: Is this tribal a Raavana or a Robin Hood? Then, in the end, Vikram asks : Who is Bhagawan and Who is Rakshas? The choreography, action sequences and audiography are very good.

Saamy 2003 tamil movie

Release date: 01 May 2003
Cast: Srinivasa Rao Kota, Delhi Ganesh, Ramesh Kannaa, Ponnambalam, Vijayakumar, Vivek, Sumithra, Manorama, Trisha Krishnan, 'Chiyaan' Vikram and others
Genres: Action, Drama, Musical

Director: Hari
Producer: Pushpa Kandasamy
MUSIC_DIRECTOR: Harris Jayaraj
Film Editing by: V.T. Vijayan
CINEMATOGRAPHER: Priyan
After taking a breather with the romantic Kaadhal Sadugudu, Vikram is back in the thick of action with Saamy, which casts him as a police officer. The movie faithfully follows the formulae of his earlier hits Dhill and Dhool, giving him a macho image and mixing it with a soft romance and comedy. But his characterization here makes Saamy different from other cop movies.
Aarusaamy(Vikram) is the tough new Deputy Commissioner of Police in Tirunelvely city. He calls himself a rowdy and is ready to take whatever action necessary, legal or not, as long as there is peace in the city. To achieve this he is not averse to accepting bribes from Perumal Pitchai(Kota Srinivasarao), the biggie who has everyone from the police to the politicians on his payroll. Saamy and Bhuvana(Trisha), a Brahmin girl from a conservative family, fall in love. But circumstances force Saamy to cross the line laid down by Perumal Pitchai.
Movies where the hero plays a conscientious policeman have been a dime a dozen in Tamil cinema(though the number seems to have reduced recently with our heroes more willing to play the rowdy). But Saamy has enough differences to avoid seeming like a retread of one of the other movies. The primary reason for this is the way Vikram's character has been shaped. He is a policeman who calls himself a porukki and his actions match his words. He is not averse to receive bribes from the villain, using an illegal gun or allowing a bad guy to be hacked to death by a man he had affected. The way he deals with the villain finally also makes a strong statement and is a fitting end.
The movie shamelessly exploits Vikram's current image with the help of scenarios that don't really fit into the movie. Vikram's introduction is a case in point. Though he is in disguise and digs up some information, he never uses the information later nor does he do anything that he could not have done as a police officer. But the sequence does help him get drunk and indulge in what is fast becoming his trademark introduction song. But his macho image is affected a little by the fact that he doesn't have a strong villain to go up against. Kota Srinivasa Rao seems like a good match in the beginning but looking back, he never really does anything and is all bark and no bite.
The movie is quite fast paced and the other ingredients like romance and comedy don't infringe on the pace too much. The budding romance between Vikram and Trisha is built up quite well with the meetings between them being short and sweet. The different in their castes is not made a big deal of and the scene where he asks for her hand is very well handled. Vivek appears as a forward-minded Brahmin and takes shots at the irrelevance of outdated customs. Though he makes some good points, the fact that he targets a particular community reduces their effectiveness.
Vikram is perfectly at home in the khaki uniform and his delivers his threats and warnings effectively. Trisha looks very pretty and suits the soft-spoken role. Telugu import Kota Srinivasa Rao has the face and body language befitting a villain but has not been put to very good use. Ramesh Khanna has some nice one-liners as Vikram's assistant. Harris Jayaraj makes a mark after a long gap with a strong soundtrack. Aalamaram... is slow but catchy and has some simple but great lyrics about life in the village and Vikram's actions after he becomes a police officer. Tirunelveli Alwaada... is the introduction song while Kalyanamdhaan... is definite to become a hit with its fast beats and enthusiastic singing.

ILAIGNAN (2011)

Cast:    Pa Vijay, Meera Jasmine, Remya Nambeesan, Suman, Vadivelu, Kushbu
Direction:    Suresh Krishna
Production:    S Martin
Music:    Vidyasagar

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s pen seems to grow younger day after day. The man with a Midas touch, in his 75th film as script, oozes with the same energy which was evident in ‘Parasakthi’.
In a career spanning seven decades, he has touched on almost all themes that had a telling impact on the society. He never failed to champion the cause of the oppressed and the ink never dried when he wrote for the cause of the weaker section.
’Ilaignan’ is one more jewel in his crown that speaks for the cause of the working class. The need to respect workers, give them their due share and what happens if the capitalist tendency prevails is what ‘Ilaignan’ speaks about.
No doubt the script is outdated. But no complaints since ‘Ilaignan’ is a period film and the intentions are made clear from scene one itself.
With his fiery dialogues, Karunanidhi brings out the right emotions and creates the need for an equitable society. If Chief Minister Karunanidhi is the flesh of the movie, then director Suresh Krishna is the blood.
He in his 50th film, has given shape to Karunanidhi’s thoughts with ease and elan. The making is rich (thanks to producer S Martin) and the emotional drama has been brought out well. Be it the romance, rivalry between the capitalists and the working class of revenge or the mother-son love, all is captured well on canvas.
The story occurs in 1959. Rajanayakam (Suman), who owns a ship building company in rural Tamilnadu, exploits his workers. He forces them to work for meager wages and restricts them to live within a wall.
With no proper food, they are forced to suffer. More a bonded labour, they are put to untold hardship. Any kind of resistance is met with violence by Rajanayakam’s men. He is controlled by his fiancée Sena (Namitha), a wicked woman.
Enters Kargy (Pa Vijay), son of Arokiyasamy (Nasser) and Valliyammal (Kushboo). Arokiyasamy is killed by Rajanayakam’s men. Kargy joins the company as a staff. He sows revolutionary thoughts among the employees.
He forces them to take up a fight against the cruel wicked boss. He also gets the help of Meera (Meera Jasmine), sister of Deivanayakam. Also there is romance between Ramya(Ramya Nambeesan) and Kargy.
Soon after mobilising the support of employees, Kargy plans to wage a battle with arms. But his mother urges him to fight in a non-violent manner. However Kargy and his men are forced to pay a heavy price when the battle begins. Finally it a major fight between Kargy and Rajanayakam to settle scores.
Pa Vijay has played his part to perfection. He looks trim, slim and tailor-made for the role. He is expressive and gives his best performance. His emotional expressions towards the climax is worth-mentioning.
Equally impressive is Kushboo. Playing the role of mom, she is right there giving a excellent performance. Suman as wicked Rajanayakam is good. Namitha, Meera Jasmine, Ramya Nambeesan, Manivannan, Y Gee Mahendra and Vadivelu among others are adequate for the role.
Music is by Vidyasagar with a couple of songs inclouding ‘Imai Thoodhanae…’ is nice to listen to. The song ‘Thozha Vanam Thuram Illai…’is loud and rocking. B L Sanjay’s cinematography is bright and apt for the theme. But all credit should go to Thotta Tharani, who has put up huge set replicating a ship building factory.
Martin deserves accolades for producing a movie in a lavish manner. With Suresh Krishna and Karunanidhi at the helm of affairs, ‘Ilaignan’ is an old theme, which is still the need of the hour.

Enthiran (Robot) (Tamil) (2010)

Banner:    Sun Pictures
Cast:    Rajinikanth, Aishwarya Rai, Santhanam, Karunaas
Direction:    Shankar
Production:    Kalanithi Maran
Music:    A R Rahman

Review : When was the last time, you watched a movie and came out of a theatre and then continued to talk about that movie for ages to come? If you have an answer, you have another opportunity and if you don’t, you have your first ‘experience’ here!

Director Shankar, director extraordinaire comes with an Ento-sci-fi-thriller (Entertaining science fiction) ride and that’s ‘Endhiran’ produced by Sun Pictures’ Kalanidhi Maran! His trump card is Superstar Rajnikanth with four Aces being Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as the heroine, AR Rahman for his expertise best known, Rathnavelu for cinematography and one whole Ace for his team that developed the special effects!

If you are that die hard fan of Rajnikanth, you wouldn’t need a review but you’d still want that loads of lines praising heaps on the Superstar! But here, you’ll regret one thing – the invention of the dictionary! You won’t really find one word to describe the true charisma and the on-screen persona of Rajnikanth, the undisputed Superstar of Tamil, oops Indian cinema!

Man, he is just class, when it comes to style and performance! Let’s dip in to the review in detail, don’t worry, there will be no spoilers!

The Gist of the Story
Rajnikanth is a scientist, Vaseegaran who develops his brainchild, a robot. Names it ‘Chitty’ and teaches every single thing that this universe can hold. ‘Chitty’ is programmed to learn and know everything except for human emotions and when that is taught, how would you expect a machine to react? Watch ‘Endhiran’ to know how!

Shankar, the captain!
‘Endhiran’ was apparently Shankar’s vision which he envisaged 10 years back! So imagine the idea that rose almost a decade ago! Yes he has been inspired by Hollywood, the land of science fiction, but executing that in India with the ‘Superstar’ flavour is not an easy task. Shankar’s knowledge on science and technology seems to be immense and he has conveyed his ideas to both rural and urban people with ease, thanks to simple, straightforward dialogues with due credit to Late Sujatha and young Karky. Shankar has adopted an uncomplicated screenplay that is enriched with entertaining elements that will make you think of how those three hours just flew!

Dialogues
The Superstar’s fan following ranges from the villages to international cities and this being a movie talking about technology, one would expect totally technical jargon in place. But that’s only a myth, because the dialogues in ‘Endhiran’ are simple and convey the message quite crisply making sure all the sections of the audience understand every aspect of technology and science. Now did that sound serious? The movie is neatly infused with comedy dialogues that will make you giggle and when rendered by Rajni himself, you’ll just scream laughing!

Visual Effects and Editing
The teasers and trailers stimulated the curiosity thanks to the splendid visual effects by international technicians. Examples of the dynamic effects are a plenty to talk about in the movie but sample this – a robot with unimaginable powers confronts goons with his electromagnetic property and attracts their weapons, and voila, you get to see, a spectacular scene that probably idolizes Goddess Kali! You’ll have to watch it to understand and realise, it is verbally impossible to describe that scene and many other visual effects! Editing by Antony is crisp. Had the length been a little longer, the party would have been a little annoying!

Stunts
Not just for visual effects, Shankar has also used the services of international expertise for the stunts in his movie. Yuen Woo Ping, who worked on ‘The Matrix’, etc, has designed stunt scenes that will make your jaws drop! Our very own Peter Heines has also done his part. A sample to tease your curiosity – an intense car chasing scene with our Superstar making a ‘donut’ in his Mercedes Convertible! Exhilarating!

Cinematography and Art
Rathnavel aka Randy, seems to have been born with a golden camera! He has produced visuals fabulously with all the songs being shot with right colour temperature and lighting. You won’t miss a sight when ‘Kadhal Annukal’ and ‘Kilimanjaro’ are on screen; they simply transport you to the scenic locations. And coming to art Sabu Cyril has done a tremendous job with his distinct style.
Music
AR Rahman, the Mozart of Madras, we’ve seen the response for the music right after the launch! But on screen, ‘Kadhal Annukal’ and ‘Kilimanjaro’, not to forget ‘Arima’, they take you by storm. The background score’s decent and tries to receive your attention effectively! The rerecording in the movie is near perfect and sound capture by Oscar winner Resul Pookutty is A1.

The Cast
Your eyes are predominantly set on the Superstar but pave way for the other leads. We’ll come to the beautiful Aishwarya in a little while but before that it is going to be the gracious Danny Denzongpa, the wily villain of the movie. He is old but he is got grace and is a refreshing change from the usual villains. He adds a lot of freshness to the script, a brilliant choice of casting.

The next, comedians Karunaas and Santhanam, though they don’t quite have lengthy screen presence, they still manage to receive appreciation for their comic timing. Santhanam will be a proud man to have shared screen with the superstar.

Aishwarya Rai – The Miss World, is amazing and truly an epitome of beauty! She forms an important part of the script and hence you’ll spot her throughout the movie, perhaps for the first time a heroine is receiving considerable importance in a superstar’s movie! The marvellous costumes add to her allure and she’s just majestic in few scenes!

Rajnikanth aka Superstar
Saving the best (or the ultimate) for the last, Rajnikanth is one man who will not cease to amaze you! If your 6 or 60, doesn’t really matter because you will be in awe of the man! In a movie which shows signs of visual effects riding in the driver’s seat, the Superstar dominates every bit to walk away with appreciation! No favouritism here, you just can’t stop talking about him, once you come out! As the scientist Vaseegaran, he plays his part uncharacteristically Rajni without Punch dialogues or fights but as ‘Chitty – the Robot’ you are bound to follow or even turn an addict!

Sample this – as a gentle Robot he is precise in acting and when it comes to the evil side, the incredible Rajni has made sure he doesn’t waste his opportunity! His evil laugh, his characteristic slick walk, that body language and the dialogue delivery in ‘Endhiran’ remind you of the golden Rajni time! Look out for the amazing dance moves by the superstar, given his age, a few moves are stunning, credits to the choreographers!

To those who know him, Vandemataram Srinivas has been a man who has entertained the audience with his voice as a singer and also as a music director. But now, he is all set to take the litmus test in a new role, that of a director. His debut venture ‘Badmash’ is all set to hit the screens today and this has Naga Siddartha and Ekta Kapoor making their debut as the hero and heroine respectively. This is slated to be a commercial entertainer, all the best to Vandemataram Srinivas. The name spells terror! Psychos yelp and druglords squeal! The tigress that tames lions, the woman who put the thunder in Thums Up and the action queen whose path even gravel fears to tread is back, and she’s bigger and better than before! And this time she’s here to mash the world of terrorism! Wilier than Carlos, craftier than the colony fox, the chokri who can make any chora bawl… ladies and gentlemen, in this corner, megacop Vijayashanti!!!
Only, 2-1/2 hours later, it’s the end of another assembly line chor-police story. The chors are still up to it, but you in the other corner is a different matter altogether. And why? Well, here’s the tale. Vijayashanti is an honest cop whose brother falls victim to some fancy hypnotism by Ashish Vidyarthi, a terrorist mastermind. The brother tries to bump her off, but fails and gets bumped off himself in this sibling-eat-sibling world. And now she’s hot on the heels of this terrorist guy.
Due to an old-fashioned director’s usual filmi twists, she finds herself suspended, and then uses this time effectively to put together a ragtag team of guys, with whose help we gather she’ll kick ass. And then the whole training and songs session later, she finds herself being helped out by another honest cop, Yashwant. This dude looks like the result of an ‘MGR-NTR instant mix’ pack. This leather bound, makeup sloshed, drunken guy tries to look cool with no avail, but he can still help her fight the terrorists. Yeah, like we needed some lard bound moron to infuse machismo in the script…

Director-Screenwriter Bhagyaraj has been an entertainer, whose films are assured of 100% entertainment. But as the ages passed by, he has literally lost his style of storytelling nature. Assuming that the youngsters would accept a film with overdosed youth elements, he has paid attention to double meaning dialogues but fails to keep up the momentum in work. The story by Krishna Da Vinci about a boy and girl failing in 12th Std is a good concept. Bhagyaraj tries to sustain his old formula of conveying some message for the youngsters – Everyone has a talent and it has to be utilized properly. But where is the narration is so flimsy with the second half traveling somewhere away from exact point and follows the clichéd formula.

The film opens with Pavithra (Chandini) escaping to Chennai just because she has failed in 12th Std. Across the same railway station, Siddhu aka Siddarth (Santhanoo) too arrives of the same fate. Both of them come across each other. Siddhu is on plans of committing suicide after enjoying a week of time in Chennai while Pavithra is puzzled as she doesn’t have any contact with her friends. Rest of the film is how they influence each others’ life of making betterment together.

The problem with the film is that over dosage of filthy languages that it cannot be watched along with a decent family. Why does Bhagyaraj get himself lowered with such a ridiculous attempt? The first attempt is enjoyable with more youthful elements while the second half is nowhere near to the first hour. The story scatters out without any prominence to the script. Hero getting along with family members, heroine warning him to get away and another one falling in love with him, a silly sidekick helping him out – such things have been watched numerous times in Tamil Cinema.

Come on Bhagyaraj sir! What has happened to you now?

Performance wise, Santhanoo does a good job saving his face. He has to work out on physiques. His dancing skills and naturalistic performances are the biggest pluses. Chandani is a small teen girl, who can better choose to act sister roles. Rests of the actor do not make a strong impression.
Cinematography by Raasamathy is an additional plus and couple of songs by Dharan is impressive. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s ‘Poove Poove’ is a melodic poison and the remix of ‘Na Aalana Thamarai’ is a peppy remix shot in foreign locales.

K. Bhagyaraj films usually have some parallel conflict and have a good treatment. But in this one, we don’t come across any of his touch.

Siddhu +2, First attempt would have been appreciated if it was Bhagyaraj’s first attempt. But after making so many films, such movie was not expected of him.
