Luck' reminds you of a number of things seen earlier, the two most prominent ones being 'reality shows' and '80s Bollywood movies'. Danny Denzongpa seems to be the presenter of the show, while the six lead actors look like participants and Sanjay Dutt acts as the judge. Reminding us of the 80s decade is the unnecessary 'attempted rape scene', 'frequent rescue of the heroine by the hero' and the 'impossible win of the hero in the end'. On top of that, we see Sanjay Dutt in that oft-repeated 'crime lord' role. In short, there are too many clichés used in the film.
Coming down to the good part, 'Luck' is based on a very novel concept - that of human betting. However, the faulty script and the sketchy plot took all the fun out of watching the movie. The movie was touted to have 'never seen before' stunts. Though there were many thrilling scenes in the movie, none of them managed to achieve an exceptional level. In fact, some of the intermediate stunts seemed to be too artificial. While the movie is still engrossing in the first half, it falls completely flat in the second one. The romantic track is totally 'thanda', with no chemistry between Imran and Shruti, and looks unwarranted as well.
Coming down to the performances, Sanjay Dutt was his usual 'convincing' self. He played his part with effortless ease. Mithun delivered a fine performance, while Danny was perfect and Chitrashi excellent. Even Ravi Kishan proved to be quite effective. However, the show stealer was Imran Khan, who seems to be getting better with every film. As for Shruti, she looks very good on-screen and even dances well, but she really needs to work on her dialogue delivery. How we wish that Soham would have used the 'hatke' plot convincingly. Alas! His 'luck' did not seem to favor him this time.
