Ram Gopal Varma had previously established the Bachchans in the Godfather inspired Sarkar and had received accolades for the film, though not original. With the vital characters well-known, it was no trouble taking the life of Sarkar ahead. This time, Subhash Nagre played with the same finesse by Amitabh takes a back seat and the baton is carried by Junior Bachchan as his son, Shankar. He has taken power over the family affairs.

The story revolves around the ambitious project of an NRI industrialist, Anita (played by Aishwarya). She approaches the family for a power plant which she wants to set up in one of the lands under Sarkar Raj. As predicted, this project soon transforms into a political battle field of power and corruption.

Interestingly, RGV has made generous use of the technical aspects of the original Sarkar in this sequel by employing the same unpredictable camera angles, sepia toned shades and of course, the acclaimed music score by Amar Mohile. However, this has stolen from the film, its expected dose of originality. Even the villains plot against the Nagre family in similar ways. The story line switches between revenge drama and a political film but the treatment is entertaining. Thankfully, Ramu has added an interesting climax which increases the overall impact of the film, making it a potential hit.

RGV has yet again silenced his critics by extracting fine performance from the Bachchan family. Amitabh plays the silent godfather while Abhishek fulfills his duties as a son and heir with class. In fact he is suave in his movements. Aishwarya needs no understatements for her fine performance. The other sidekicks and usual henchmen in the story add a degree of realism, comedy and depth to the movie which makes it an interesting piece of work.
