Analysis

Pawan Kalyan, the original style icon in Telugu and writer-director Trivikram Srinivas, popular for presenting films in entertaining way, have come together for the first time with Jalsa. Their unique combination along with top heroine Ileana had invited a lot of buzz and hungama.
Does this film live up to the huge expectations and all the hype and hoopla? The answer is - it works to some extent and offers good entertainment and puts Pawan back on track that his fans are expecting. The entire first half brings back the memories of cool entertainment that we had seen in Khushi. Indeed the first half is its strength. In the recent times, Pawan Kalyan has never looked so good.
On the downside, second half is big letdown. Wafer thin storyline, confusing element of Naxalism and inconsistent second half have spoiled the movie from becoming a great entertainer.
Performances
Pawan Kalyan bounces back with a bang. He looks so refreshingly good and is at complete ease with comedy. His trademarks have always been different mannerisms, comedy and action sequences. In Jalsa, he has taken these to new heights and Pawan's fans are in for another mesmerizing treat especially in his romantic scenes with Ileana and teasing act with Bramhamandam.
Ileana looks million bucks. Her chemistry with Pawan is perfect. The film explains why she became so rage among youth. Added to that, Colors Swathi lending voice to her has made all the difference. Parvathi, Kamalinee and Shivaji make just guest appearances. Brahmanadam once again proves that he is a reservoir of talent. He brings life to the sagging second half. In one word, he is superb.
Special mention should be made to Mahesh Babu for his excellent narration in the form of voice-over. It is a healthy trend set by Mahesh.
On the downside, there is nothing new story-wise. Naxalism episode is dealt in very silly way. It is sham to the script. M S Guhan and Rasool's cinematography is top class. Devi Sri Prasad has given his best but the songs on the screen are not that effective as they are to the ears.

Director Trivikram focuses more on elevating Pawan Kalyan but gives toss to the script and characterization of the protagonist. As a writer of dialogues he shines but the director in him seems to have sidelined this time. He doesn't focus much on the script. Though he has enough time, Trivikram fails to narrate convincingly the Naxal's episode and villain resorting to vengeance on hero. The mix of Naxalism in romantic story is mismatch

A Pro-Communist protagonist whose family died in miserable penury leads life in Jalsa with boozing and romancing heroines and nothing else? How silly! Director has failed to create a good characterization for hero.
Bottom-line

After Kushi, Jalsa is the better film for Pawan Kalyan.
If you are looking for just entertainment and good time pass - Jalsa offers it. The comedy in the first half and comic scenes between Brahmandam and Pawan, indeed, are pluse points. Pawan Kalyan fans will rejoice. But on the whole, it is an average film and has many loopholes and weak second half.
